Sekeres & Price Show

Dan Murphy of Sportsnet TV joined Matt and Blake and started off by talking about what it’ll be like to be back in the rink with actual fans in attendance. He reminisced about going into his 20th season on the beat and working with the recently retired Jim Hughson. He talked about the news of the day and how expensive those preseason tickets are going to be. Dan talked about the pressures the OEL will face when there aren’t many that compare to players his age or contract size. Thinks the Canucks can’t afford another anchor contract to go south. He thinks the OEL hook is at the forefront of the Sedin impact in their new role. They will be a very valuable piece as a conduit between management and players. Talked about how Travis Green feels going into the season and that he would have liked a lot of players GM JB brought in. Talked about what he wishes JB did that would have made it easier to sign Hughes and Pettersson. Murph has always felt that they would miss training camp, no matter how much cap space there is. Finished it off by talking about what made Jim Hughson. Saying he was always so consistent.

Patrick Johnston of Postmedia and started off talking about our poll question and his favourite Canucks pxp commentator. Followed up by breaking down the Kaprizov deal for the Wild and how it compares to what Pettersson should sign for. This moves away from the Barzal discussion and the chatter in the public. Talks about how the Canucks painted themselves into a corner signing players before their two big names. PJ thinks Canucks fans have a legitimate reason to be upset with their two best players not being there. Finished off by talking about the Rugby Sevens tournament and how it went.

The Price is right touches on the price being wrong… in Abbotsford for the Canucks preseason ticket price.

Jeff Paterson joined the guys in his regular spot and started off by talking about how the Kaprizov deal will effect Pettersson. Thinks that this plays into the EP camp, waiting to see what happened with this signing first. JPat doesn’t think that EP will get 9 million. Talked about the pattern that has emerged when it comes to Jim Benning getting these 2nd contracts done for their star players. Talked about Tyler Motte not being available for the start of the season and what that means for the club. Says that his availability isn’t anywhere near good enough, especially heading into the final year of his contract. Talked about bringing in players for PTO’s. Says it is hard when its public knowledge that there is no money to spend. Talked about who his favourite play by play commentator in Canucks history. Finished up by talking about Jim Hughson.
